Jimmy Martin
Jimmy Martin (August 10, 1927–May 14, 2005), known as the "King of Bluegrass," was an American vocalist, guitarist, and bandleader. Born and raised in Sneedville, Tennessee, he rose to prominence in 1949 when he joined Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys, serving as lead singer and rhythm guitarist until 1954. Following a brief partnership with the Osborne Brothers, he formed his own backing group, the Sunny Mountain Boys, which operated as an incubator for future icons including J.D. Crowe and Doyle Lawson. Over an 18-year tenure with Decca Records, he generated enduring standards such as "Rock Hearts," "Widow Maker," and his signature anthem, "The Sunny Side of the Mountain." He was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor in 1995.
