Turkey Pluckers

Bands / Ensembles

The Turkey Pluckers were a string band from Seattle, Washington, formed in 1962 by fiddler Vivian Williams, her husband Phil Williams on banjo, guitarist and singer Mike Nelson, and mandolinist Ron Ginther. The Williamses had been playing at home with Nelson, a Navy man stationed at Sand Point They played every Friday and Saturday for thirteen weeks at the Place Next Door coffeehouse, which drew local bluegrass players to sit in and encouraged others to take up bluegrass instruments. Phil Williams credited those shows with helping start Seattle's coffeehouse bluegrass scene. The band was a regular on the televised "Northwest Hootenanny" from Seattle Center.
