Labels / Record Companies
Sugar Hill Records is a bluegrass and Americana label founded in Durham, North Carolina, in 1978 by Barry Poss and Dave Freeman of County and Rebel Records. Poss took full control in 1980 and built it into one of the leading progressive bluegrass labels. Its roster has included Ricky Skaggs, Doc Watson, the Seldom Scene, New Grass Revival, Nickel Creek, Tim O'Brien, Dolly Parton's bluegrass albums, and Kathy Kallick. Poss sold the label to the Welk Music Group in 1998. It moved to Nashville in 2007 and has been part of Concord's Rounder Label Group since 2015.
