Stoney Lonesome
Bands / Ensembles
Stoney Lonesome was a bluegrass band from Minnesota, formed in the late 1970s and led by singer and guitarist Kate MacKenzie. It became known as the regular bluegrass band of Garrison Keillor's radio show A Prairie Home Companion as the show spread nationally. The band's first album came out through Minnesota Public Radio's Wireless catalog. In 1986 and 1987, MacKenzie and banjo player Kevin Barnes rebuilt the band to move it beyond its Prairie Home Companion identity, adding bassist Patty Shove, mandolinist and lead guitarist Chris Kaiser, and fiddler Brian Wicklund.
