Skyline
Bands / Ensembles
Skyline was a progressive bluegrass band of the late 1970s and 1980s, led by banjo player Tony Trischka. The other founding members were Danny Weiss (guitar, vocals), Dede Wyland (guitar, vocals), Larry Cohen (bass) and Barry Mitterhoff (mandolin). Weiss and Mitterhoff had played music together since high school. The band recorded for Flying Fish Records after Rounder, which released Trischka's solo albums, declined to sign the band. Wyland left in the band's final year and was replaced by Rachel Kalem. Skyline's last album, Fire of Grace, came out in 1989, and a retrospective, Ticket Back, followed in 1999. Weiss, Cohen and Mitterhoff later formed the band Silk City with violinist Marty Laster. Trischka, Weiss, Cohen and Mitterhoff reunited as Tony Trischka & Skyline at the 42nd New Jersey Folk Festival at Rutgers University.
