Sing Out!

Publishers / Periodicals

Sing Out! was a quarterly folk music magazine that grew out of the earlier People's Songs and published its first issue in New York in May 1950. Pete Seeger and Irwin Silber were key co-founders, and Silber edited it from 1951 to 1967, followed much later by Mark Moss, who led it from 1983 on. Each issue printed 15 or more songs with lyrics and music, along with profiles, reviews, and columns. Its broad definition of folk took in singer-songwriters, blues, bluegrass, and world music. The print magazine, by then based in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, ended in spring 2014, and the Sing Out! Radio Magazine continues as a syndicated program.
