Shamrock

The Shamrock was a small bar in Washington, D.C.'s Georgetown neighborhood that became one of the cornerstones of the capital's bluegrass scene in the 1960s and early 1970s. Beginning in 1962, the Country Gentlemen held a weekly residency that turned the bar into a nightly destination for college students, government workers, and transplanted Southerners alike. Along with nearby rooms like the Red Fox Inn in Bethesda and, later, the Birchmere, the Shamrock helped make the Washington area the most fertile ground for progressive bluegrass in the country.
