Natalie Maines

Natalie Maines (born October 14, 1974) is a singer and songwriter from Lubbock, Texas, and the lead singer of the Chicks, formerly the Dixie Chicks. She is the daughter of the steel guitarist and producer Lloyd Maines. She left the Berklee College of Music to join the Dixie Chicks in 1995, replacing Laura Lynch, and joining sisters Martie and Emily Erwin. With Maines as lead singer, the band released Wide Open Spaces (1998), which won the Grammy Award for Best Country Album. Fly (1999) and Home (2002) also won Grammys. Between 1998 and 2007 the band won ten Country Music Association Awards and thirteen Grammys. In March 2003, at a concert in London, she criticized President George W. Bush, and country radio stations then boycotted the band. Their 2006 album Taking the Long Way won five Grammys, including Album of the Year. She released a solo album, Mother, in 2013. The band changed its name to the Chicks in 2020 and released Gaslighter that year.
