Nashville Kitty Cats
Bands / Ensembles
The Nashville Kitty Kats (1971–2001) were an all-woman country band that began in Richmond, Virginia, as the Southern Sweethearts. The band was built around singer Thelma Atkins and lead guitarist Charlotte Price. The band went on the road in 1971 and changed its name to the Nashville Kitty Kats, and in 1973 Atkins recorded in Nashville. The band toured cities and towns across the United States and in Greenland, and backed country stars including Tex Ritter, Marty Robbins, Barbara Fairchild and Porter Wagoner. After retiring from touring, Thelma kept playing locally with Atkins's sisters, daughter and son until the band fully retired in 2001.
