The Murphy Method is a instructional material company that teaches bluegrass by ear, without tablature. Banjoist Murphy Henry founded it with her husband, mandolinist Red Henry in 1981 when the couple built a home studio and released Murphy's beginner banjo lessons on cassette for fans who lived too far away for in-person lessons. The catalog has since grown to dozens of DVDs and downloads covering every bluegrass instrument. Instructors include Lynn Morris, Marshall Wilborn, David McLaughlin of the Johnson Mountain Boys, Ned Luberecki, Gina Furtado, and the Henrys' children, Casey and Christopher.
