Muleskinner News
Publishers / Periodicals
Muleskinner News was a monthly bluegrass magazine published from 1969 to 1975 by Carlton Haney, the promoter who staged the first weekend-long bluegrass festival at Fincastle, Virginia, in 1965. It was the second national bluegrass periodical, after Bluegrass Unlimited. Fred Bartenstein served as its editor, and it tracked the booming festival circuit, including Haney's own festival lineups. In 1974 Haney added a companion magazine, Grassound, aimed at younger, more progressive fans.
