Mary Stribling

Mary Stribling is a bassist and singer from Minnesota who settled in Denver, Colorado. There she played in the Twenty String Bluegrass Band with Charles Sawtelle. In 1973 she joined the Mother Folkers, a group of Colorado women musicians who first performed together at the Denver Folklore Center. The group held a concert every spring for 25 years and later reunited for benefit shows. When Lynn Morris graduated from Colorado College in 1972, Stribling invited her to Denver to start a band. With guitarist Pat Rossiter, they formed the trio City Limits Bluegrass Band, which played across the Rocky Mountain region, especially at ski resorts, until 1978. City Limits recorded two albums for Denver's Biscuit City Records: its debut, Hello City Limits (1975), and Live at the Oxford Hotel. Stribling played bass and sang on both. She was inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame with the Mother Folkers in 2019.
