Iris Dement

Iris DeMent (born January 5, 1961) is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and human rights advocate. Raised in a Pentecostal household in California after her family relocated from rural Arkansas, she debuted with the critically acclaimed album Infamous Angel (1992), which was later named one of the greatest country albums of all time by Rolling Stone. Over a multi-decade career, she earned two Grammy Award nominations, established her own independent label, Flariella Records, and collaborated extensively with roots music icons like John Prine, Ralph Stanley, and Emmylou Harris. Noted for her direct protest anthems and introspective ballads, DeMent received the Americana Music Association's Trailblazer Award in 2017.
