Hub Nitchie
Hubbard "Hub" Nitchie (1929 – October 1992) was a banjo player, librarian, and teacher who founded Banjo Newsletter with his wife, Nancy Nitchie. He started producing banjo tablature and mailing it to subscribers in the 1960s. From 1970 to 1972 the family lived on Martha's Vineyard, where he was the librarian at Martha's Vineyard Regional High School and played banjo with folk musicians in Chilmark. The family moved back to Maryland in 1972, and the Nitchies turned his tablature mailings into Banjo Newsletter, publishing the first issue from Annapolis in November 1973. Nancy later became the magazine's business manager. IBMA named him Print Media Person of the Year in 1992, the year he died. Their sons, Donald and Spencer, took over the publication in 1993, with Donald as editor and Spencer as business manager. Banjo Newsletter received IBMA's Distinguished Achievement Award in 2008, and the American Banjo Museum inducted Hub Nitchie into its Hall of Fame in 2018 in the Instruction and Education category.
