Hattie Frost Stoneman
Hattie Frost Stoneman (September 28, 1900–July 22, 1976) was an American old-time fiddler, banjoist, and vocalist. Born in Pipers Gap, Virginia, she learned music from her father, Bill Frost. Following her November 1918 marriage to country music pioneer Ernest "Pop" Stoneman, she brought her musical abilities into their household recording on the seminal 1927 and 1928 Bristol Sessions, as well as tracks for Gennett, Edison, and Victor with her husband and Uncle Eck Dunford. She raised 23 children, fostering a multigenerational family legacy that eventually coalesced into The Stoneman Family, a premier progressive bluegrass and country ensemble. She was posthumously honored alongside her husband as the first couple inducted into the Starr-Gennett Foundation Walk of Fame in 2009.
