Gavin Report
Publishers / Periodicals
The Gavin Report was a San Francisco radio trade publication founded in 1958 by radio personality Bill Gavin. For decades radio programmers relied on its airplay charts, first for Top 40 and later for other formats, to decide what to play. It also ran the Gavin Seminar, an annual radio industry convention. In the 1990s it added an Americana chart, edited by Rob Bleetstein, that helped define the emerging Americana radio format. United Business Media, which had owned the publication since 1992, closed it in February 2002, citing poor convention attendance and a lack of cooperation from radio conglomerates.
