Friends of Sally Johnson
Bands / Ensembles
Friends of Sally Johnson (1984–1990) was a bluegrass band from the Seattle area that grew out of jam sessions begun in 1984 by fiddler Vivian Williams, Phil Williams, banjo player Harley Bray, guitarist Shera Bray, Barry Brower and John Welch. The six soon became a band, with Phil Williams on bass and Brower on guitar. Welch left in 1985 and Brower switched to mandolin. The band played clubs and festivals, including the 1988 Grass Valley Bluegrass Festival in California, appeared on Sandy Bradley's radio program Potluck, and was featured on ABC's national Home Show. After Brower left in 1990, the remaining four continued as Williams & Bray.
