Darlene Collins Hodges
Darlene Collins Hodges (1932–2008) was an American bluegrass and old-time fiddler, classical violinist, and educator based in western North Carolina. Born in Jackson County, she completed her master's degree at Western Carolina University and pursued doctoral work at the University of Georgia before serving a long academic career, ultimately retiring as the Dean of Instruction at Haywood Community College. As an instrumentalist, she initially performed as a backup acoustic guitarist before marrying renowned fiddler and craftsman Ernest Hodges. Under his guidance, she mastered the complex trade of violin making, taking two years to construct her own signature fiddle.
