Crowe and McLaughlin
Bands / Ensembles
Crowe and McLaughlin was a bluegrass duo of the 1990s made up of guitarist and singer Josh Crowe and multi-instrumentalist David McLaughlin. Crowe, born in northern Georgia in 1957, had spent years with his brother Wayne in Raymond Fairchild and then the Crowe Brothers, a regular act on the Grand Ole Opry. McLaughlin was a founding member of the Johnson Mountain Boys. The two met in 1981 but first performed together in 1992, when Crowe invited McLaughlin to a bluegrass festival in North Carolina. They became a duo after Wayne Crowe stepped away from music in 1993. Their only album, Going Back, released by Rounder Records in 1993 with bassist Ronnie Freeland, won Album of the Year at the 1994 Washington, D.C., music awards.
