Continental Divide
Bands / Ensembles
Continental Divide was a bluegrass band formed in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1994 by singer and guitarist David Parmley, a founding member of the Bluegrass Cardinals, and banjo player Scott Vestal. It started as a band built around Vestal and Harley Allen, and became David Parmley, Scott Vestal and Continental Divide when Allen chose to focus on songwriting. The first lineup included Rickie Simpkins on fiddle, Jimmy Bowen on mandolin, Mike Anglin on bass and Randy Kohrs on resonator guitar. The band's self-titled debut album came out on Pinecastle Records in 1995, and that year it won the IBMA award for Emerging Artist of the Year. Vestal left in 1998, and the band continued as David Parmley and Continental Divide.
