City Limits Bluegrass Band
Bands / Ensembles
The City Limits Bluegrass Band (1972–1978) was a bluegrass trio from Denver, Colorado, made up of Lynn Morris (banjo, guitar, vocals), Pat Rossiter (guitar, Dobro, vocals) and Mary Stribling (bass, vocals). When Morris graduated from Colorado College in Colorado Springs in 1972, Stribling invited her to move to Denver and start a band. Stribling had come to Denver from Minnesota and played in the Twenty String Bluegrass Band with Charles Sawtelle, and Rossiter had moved from Milwaukee. The trio became popular across the Rocky Mountain region, especially at ski resorts. They recorded two albums for Denver's Biscuit City Records: Hello City Limits (1975) and Live at the Oxford Hotel, recorded at the hotel's Regency Room in May 1976. City Limits was Morris's first steady band, and it put her in the spotlight as a singer as well as a banjo player. After the band ended, she went on to Whetstone Run, Laurie Lewis's Grant Street and her own Lynn Morris Band.
