Bluegrass Inn

The Bluegrass Inn was a live music Nashville nightclub near Vanderbilt University run by banjo player Hubert Davis and his wife, Rubye, from the 1970s until 1993. Hubert had learned banjo from Earl Scruggs and went on to play with Jim Eanes's Shenandoah Valley Boys, becoming the first banjoist after Scruggs to record using Scruggs tuning pegs. Hubert also played with Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys in 1954. At the Inn, he fronted his own band, the Season Travelers, which featured his wife Rubye and daughter Shleby Jean Davis. Long before Nashville embraced bluegrass as part of its identity, the Bluegrass Inn was one of the few places where fans could reliably hear and play the music. The family performed at and ran the club until Hubert’s death in May 1992.
