Bear Family Records

Labels / Record Companies

Bear Family Records is a German reissue label founded in 1975 by collector Richard Weize and based in Holste-Oldendorf. Its very first release was a double LP by bluegrass pioneer Bill Clifton, Going Back to Dixie. Bear Family calls itself a collector's label. It is known for lavish, exhaustively annotated box sets of archival country, rock and roll, and pop recordings, by artists such as Bob Wills, Johnny Cash, Hank Snow, Jim Reeves, the Carter Family, and Merle Travis. Its themed multi-disc compilations include a 26-CD history of the country charts from 1945 to 1970.
