Founded in 1973 by Hub and Nancy Nitchie, Banjo Newsletter is a monthly magazine dedicated to the 5-string banjo showcasing banjo in many styles through interviews, instructional columns, tablature, product reviews, and historical pieces. Murphy Henry contributed monthly columns beginning in 1983, alongside writers like Janet Davis and Sandy Crisco Hatley, making the magazine a significant outlet for women’s voices in banjo journalism. Edited by Donald and Spencer Nitchie from 1994 to 2021, the magazine has been recognized by the International Bluegrass Music Association and remains an essential resource for documenting players, techniques, and the evolving culture of bluegrass and old-time banjo.
