April Barrows

April Barrows (born April 28, 1954) is a singer, songwriter, and bassist. She was born in Milford, Connecticut, and moved with her family to the San Francisco Bay Area at five. She played violin as a child, sang and played rhythm guitar in high school, and later took up steel guitar and electric bass. She worked as a chemist before moving to Nashville in the late 1970s. There she spent about six years as a bassist, playing with the Judds' first band, the Memphis Horns, Vassar Clements, and Woody Herman. She also played bass in the all-woman bluegrass band the Bushwhackers with Ginger Boatwright, Ingrid Reese, and Susie Monick, which released its debut album in 1980. She turned to songwriting in 1985, writing country, bluegrass, and blues songs before focusing on swing. She released her debut album, My Dream Is You, in 1996, and her songs have been recorded by Suzy Bogguss and Dale Watson.
